These handmade ceramic buttons are made by rolling out slabs of black porcelain clay, rolling a texture into the clay, and then cutting the shapes. When they become leather hard, I clean the edges and put the holes in them. When they are bone dry, I fire them in a bisque fire at cone 04. Next, I glaze them with a 2-3 layers of mid-range glaze and fire them again at cone 6. Because of the nature of these glazes to flow and mix, now two buttons are exactly the same. By firing the stoneware clay to cone 6, the clay is vitrified which makes them strong, and makes the glaze colors vibrant and rich. These buttons are great for knitting, crocheting, or sewing. The perfect accent or embellishment for a bag, hat, or cardigan.
