Functional Ware

  • All my handmade items are unique, no two are exactly the same. Many of my pieces are  thrown on a wheel using a white stoneware clay, or a brown stoneware clay.
  • Some pieces of the white stoneware are used for sgraffito designs, or designs created with underglaze.
  • The brown is often used with a copper or manganese wash. Once the clay is bone dry, it was then fired in a bisque fire to cone 04. Next, I applied 3-5 coats of glaze before it was fired in a cone 6 glaze fire. I love how no two pieces are exactly the same! During the glaze fire, the layered glazes flow and mix to create a unique surface design on every piece.
