All my handmade items are unique, no two are exactly the same. This large plate/platter was hand built by rolling out a slab of brown clay, rolling a texture into the clay, adding details with carving and marking the clay and then forming the piece while it was leather hard. Once it is bone dry, I clean the edges and make sure it’s ready to fire. Then, I fire the plate in a bisque fire at cone 04. Next, I glaze the plate with layers of glaze, allowing them to mix and create layers of color. Finally, I fire the plate again at cone 6. This process vitrifies the clay, which makes it strong, and makes the glaze colors vibrant and rich.
The plate/platter is brown stoneware and pretty durable. I prefer to not put my handmade pieces in the dishwasher due to the one of a kind nature of handmade pottery, especially with an organic edge.
