This piece was thrown on a wheel using a white stoneware clay. Next it was glazed with a black underglaze and then, using the sgraffito technique, the design was carved from the glazed surface while the piece was still leather hard. Once the piece was bone dry, it was then fired in a bisque fire to cone 04. Finally, I applied a clear glaze to the sgraffito areas and then I glazed the rest of the piece with a colored celadon glaze before it was fired in a cone 6 glaze fire.
This pot is suitable as a pen and pencil cup on your desk, or working as a cache pot to display your favorite potted plant (real or artificial).
