Decorative Blue Berries and Leaves Sgraffito Design Bud Vase

This sgraffito bud vase was thrown on a wheel using a white stoneware clay. Next it was glazed with a black underglaze and then, using the sgraffito technique, the design was carved from the glazed surface while the vase was still leather hard. Once the planter was bone dry, it was then fired in a bisque fire to cone 04. I glazed the blue berries and leaves using a satin matte glaze. I then waxed over that glazed area. Finally, I applied a clear glaze to the sgraffito areas and cleaned up any glaze on the waxed areas. Then, I glazed the rest of the planter with a colored celadon glaze before it was fired in a cone 6 glaze fire.
