This is a bright chartreuse green mug with a band of black and white sgraffito ginkgo leaves swirling in the wind. The mug was thrown on a wheel using a white stoneware clay. Next it was glazed with a black underglaze and then, using the sgraffito technique, the design was carved from the glazed surface while the tumbler was still leather hard. Once the tumbler was bone dry, it was then fired in a bisque fire to cone 04. Finally, I applied a clear glaze to the sgraffito areas and then I glazed the rest of the mug with a colored celadon glaze before it was fired in a cone 6 glaze fire.
This is a one-of-a kind mug that is sure to become a favorite. It makes a great gift for any occasion, or as a treat for yourself!
Although this is dishwasher safe, to protect handmade ceramics, it is recommended to handwash to prevent accidental breakage in the dishwasher.
