These heart buttons are created by rolling a texture into my clay and then cutting the shape. Once they are leather hard, I make the button holes and clean up the edges. After the buttons are bone dry, I paint them with an underglaze making sure to get in all of the textures. I wipe back the glaze from the higher surface areas and let them dry. They are fired in a bisque kiln at cone 04 and then they are painted with a clear glaze before being fired one more time at cone 6.
While handmade ceramic buttons are durable, I recommend hand washing all handmade items to make sure they are getting the best care for a long life.
These buttons measure 1 1/4" wide x 1 1/4" long.
